Search engines like Google recommend keeping individual sitemap files under 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed. If your site has grown large, splitting your sitemap into smaller indexed files helps crawlers process it more efficiently and makes it easier to diagnose indexing issues per section of your site.

This tool processes sitemaps entirely in your browser via a proxy fetch. To stay within browser memory limits and avoid long-running proxy requests, operations are capped at 500 total URLs per run. If your sitemap exceeds 500 URLs, the tool will process the first 500 and display a clear warning so you know the output is partial.

Yes. If the URL you provide points to a sitemap index file (one that lists other sitemaps rather than URLs directly), the tool will automatically fetch and parse the child sitemaps up to two levels deep. Any deeper nesting is skipped with a warning message.

After downloading the ZIP, extract all files and upload them to your web root. The included sitemap-index.xml references each split file by relative filename, so as long as all files sit in the same directory the index will resolve correctly. You can then submit the sitemap-index.xml URL to Google Search Console.

The tool will skip any source URL that times out or returns an error, continue processing the remaining sources, and display a warning identifying which URL was skipped. As long as at least one source succeeds, a merged sitemap will still be produced.
